What is Bamboo Flooring?
Bamboo is a natural floor covering material that has many of the properties of hardwood flooring, even though it is actually made from grass shots that grows in China. It shares many of the positive benefits of a hardwood floor, as well as the drawbacks and vulnerabilities. The more you understand the properties of this material, the better informed you will be when making a purchasing or maintenance decision.
Bamboo is harvested, cut into strands & either glued together for a tradition bamboo look or woven for the much harder & more modern strand bamboo look. A bamboo shoot can be harvested as early as 3 years or 6 years; the earlier the shoots are harvested the softer the bamboo floor will be.
Bamboo floors have seen tremendous growth in styles, colors & construction since the early 80's. They are now offered in solid, engineered, handscraped & floating options. Strand woven bamboo makes a great choice of flooring for it's hardness, stability & unique texture. It's simpoly different & more interesting that a lot of other flooring options.
